Audit the data connections of a folder of workbooks
Before sharing or archiving a batch of workbooks, you want to know which ones reach out for data, and where. Drop them all: the tool lists every data connection, file by file, without changing anything.
What this tool does
- Power Query: the real sources, read from the M code, with their address.
- Legacy data connections (web, database, ODBC) left in the workbook.
- Links to other workbooks.
- A column tells whether the data leaves the machine (a remote source) or stays a local file.
- Nothing is changed: this is a survey. The report downloads as .xlsx; nothing is sent.
What it does not do: The tool lists connections, it does not remove them; to clean a workbook before sharing it, see Remove connections before sharing.
No file is uploaded. Turn off your network once this page has loaded: the tool keeps working. How to check it yourself.
Other tools
- Workbook health check : Size, phantom rows, styles, links, errors, hidden content: all of it, with one-click fixes.
- Clean before sending : Author, comments, hidden sheets, macros: what travels with the file without showing.
- Inspect a workbook : Hidden sheets, author, comments, links: what the file carries without showing it.
- Formula audit : Errors, hard-coded values, formulas that stand out: what to check in a model.
- Dependency map : Which sheet reads which, which workbooks are called: the workbook's diagram.
