Unprotect an Excel sheet
Last year's budget model, protected by someone who has left; a locked sheet whose password nobody remembers. Sheet protection is not encryption: it is a tag the workbook carries, and it can be removed without looking for the password.
What this tool does
- Sheet protection (locked cells) and the allowed ranges that come with it.
- Structure protection: sheets can be added, renamed, hidden and unhidden again.
- The read-only recommendation and its password to modify.
- The workbook comes out with its data, formulas, formatting and macros, read back and compared with the original.
What it does not do: For your own workbooks, or those entrusted to you with the agreement of whoever protected them. A workbook with an opening password is encrypted: this tool does not open it without its password, and no tool should.
No file is uploaded. Turn off your network once this page has loaded: the tool keeps working. How to check it yourself.
Other tools
- Slim down a workbook : Phantom rows, thousands of styles, copied formatting: the extra weight, removed.
- Remove external links : The "this workbook contains links" warning goes away: formulas become values.
- Formulas to values : Paste Special, Values, on the whole workbook at once: the file is frozen.
- Find and replace : A find and replace Excel doesn't have: regular expression, every sheet, text and formulas, with a preview.
- Unmerge cells : Merges removed and the value copied everywhere: you can finally sort and filter.
