See what an Excel macro does, without running it
A macro-enabled workbook can launch a program, download a file or write to disk, right on opening. Before enabling macros, you read what they do: the tool opens the VBA project, lists the modules and points out the calls to watch.
What this tool does
- What runs on its own: the Workbook_Open, Auto_Open… procedures that run on opening or closing.
- Network calls: downloads, HTTP requests, connections to the internet.
- Running programs: Shell, WScript.Shell, system commands.
- The file system: reading, writing and deleting files.
- Each module's code unfolds, to read it in full.
What it does not do: The tool reads the macros' source code, it does not run it or remove it; to remove macros, use Clean up a workbook. It does not say what a macro truly does, but which sensitive calls it contains.
No file is uploaded. Turn off your network once this page has loaded: the tool keeps working. How to check it yourself.
